2016 THROWBACK 🎀🎀🎀Jumping on the 2016 bandwagon. I only moved back to South Africa at the end of 2016 - so I was very much still in full time pastry chef mode in the UK for the majority of 2016. Crumb (est 2010 in the UK) became a bit of an “after hour” role, whilst I was working as the head pastry chef at the @lavenhamswan. I also got married in 2016 - so it was actually a big year! 🩷…A few highlights I pulled from the archives: 1. A “Pretty In Pink” dessert from one of my dessert menus at the hotel2. In June 2016 I was flown back to SA to be one of the featured chefs at the @innibos festival alongside @bertusbasson and @cheftiaan - I had such a fun week doing demos and teaching people how to make my iconic homemade Sweetie Pies 3. A cute photo of jammy biscuits dabbling with my baking blog I had back then4 - 6. The hotel I worked at was SUPER FAMOUS for afternoon tea and we had hundreds op people booked for afternoon tea and cream teas every week. It was insane. I wish I knew how many scones Iv’e made in my life. 7. My best friend got married in SA. This cake was a whole story in itself. We missed our flight as the QE2 bridge in the UK got shut because of high wind. We arrived the evening before the wedding, and the wedding was almost two hours away from our farm just outside Nelspruit. My mom, my husband and I somehow made that cake through the night, before reaching a never ending gravel road before the wedding - hence the cake looking a bit wonky. It made it though, but I nearly died of stress. 8. Still meringue kissing in 2026 👌 10 years on
